Behavioural problems

Psychologically, many children who have Dyspraxia find organising their actions difficult. They have difficulty in processing the information and sensations they receive. They may find that coming to terms with these difficulties, when they feel they are failing, extremely hard.

As a result, the children have problems in learning social skills, in controlling their behaviour and in planning ahead. They develop strategies to mask their lack of confidence.

Children with dyspraxia may have behavioural problems which require careful handling. Dr Eddy Street, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Child Health in the University Hospital of Wales has written Standing On Your Head, a leaflet for the Dyspraxia Foundation which describes the most common behavioural problems of children with dyspraxia and suggests the best ways to deal with those difficulties.
