DYSPRAXIA FOUNDATION

GENERAL COUNCIL MEEETING

1 FEBRUARY 2025

LOCAL GROUP REPORT

GREATER MANCHESTER

Prepared by Frances Shawcross

We have had eight group meetings covering health and education issues.

Frances Shawcross, the local co-ordinator was part of the committee in

Stockport, which revised the criteria for Special Educational Need under

the new Code of Practice.  She was there representing parents.  She found it very interesting seeing things from a LEA point of view, how resources are allocated and how the process is supposed to work.

Frances has also spent a lot of time helping a family through the SEN

Tribunal process, going through the evidence and putting together the

Tribunal bundle.  She went as an observer at the Hearings, which took three days over four months.  It was a good experience although quite stressful even as an observer.

We have also tried to increase the NHS interest and provision locally

And we hope that there will be some improvement soon.  Medical people do not seem to realise that they have increased responsibilities for provision for Dyspraxia under the new SEN Code of Practice.
