DYSPRAXIA FOUNDATION

GENERAL COUNCIL MEEETING

1 FEBRUARY 2025

LOCAL GROUP REPORT

LEICESTERSHIRE

Prepared by Jane Bohen

Our Gym and Social Club which meets every Monday evening in term time,

continues to be well attended.  Parents are encouraged to stay with

their children and participate in the activities which are organised by

our resident physiotherapist (who is Dyspraxic herself) and her husband

(a retired head teacher of a Special education needs school.)  We have

recently undergone a risk assessment conducted by an outsider assessor

and passed with flying colours.  This means that the college permits us

to use their trampoline.  (Nina the physiotherapist is qualified).  We

get between 18 and 25 children on a weekly basis, with an age range of 5 to 13.

Last year we started a parent support group, which meets monthly in

Leicester.  We are hoping to start an adult support group soon and also

a computer club.  We are planning to have a conference later this year

for teachers, health workers and parents.

We are having a major publicity drive with posters designed by one of

our parent supporters going in libraries, health centres and hospitals

throughout the county.  All in all we are planning a busy year and hope

that soon we won't be hearing "Dyspraxia - what's that?  Never heard of

it!" Happy new year to everyone.
